Context

Dinah Manoff wrote a memoir and needed audio production support to bring it to life as an audiobook. Her goal was to do this by herself as much as possible, to allow the scheduling and pace to be flexible.

What I Did

I set her up at BARN’s Media Arts Studio and taught her how to use our podcasting setup. With some minor adjustments she and her team of actors could come in, record themselves and leave with studio-quality wav files.

When we got married Jess and I released an EP of Power Duet covers as wedding favors. In honor of our tenth anniversary we decided to record a new set and put out a new EP. I grew up watching way too many 90s commercials for music compilations, and it was a dream to make one myself.

Context

A self-produced live performance, a cover of “Faithfully,” recorded and filmed at home for an online concert series. I’ve always been more comfortable in the studio, so capturing a live, single take performance was new for me.

Arrangement, performed, recorded the audio, shot, and edited the video.

Lessons Learned

First time using a mirrorless camera and log footage on a video project. Still getting started with transformations and color grading. Still just as nervous and error prone live :)

'Hack Week' Video: Sonos Nunchaku

Context

Sonos runs internal Hack Weeks where teams step away from the roadmap to build and pitch experimental projects. Nunchaku was one of those projects, presented as a short video.

What I Did

Over the course of 7 days produced the video end to end, from concept and capture through the edit. Some obvious tributes to Sam Raimi here. Footage capture, parody writing and performance, product concept and building, video and audio editing.

Context

A group of wide-eyed college kids had the opportunity to make an album in the paradise of Kauai, Hawaii.

What I Did

Full album production. Budgeting, scheduling, part development, musician rehearsals, audio editing, photography, cd production.

Outcome

Released to physical. This was an early-career project for all of us. Madi has gone on to have an incredible career, and continues to write music that touches me to my core. Please check out her whole catalog. I’m thankful to have been even a tiny part of her musical career.

Kistap Smokestack was doing a story on the third space Otherwise Society Commons in Poulsbo. I’ve been a member and contributor there so had some existing photos of Tallon from a DJ/dance night he had recently hosted.

Another ‘Hack Week’ project from my Sonos days. We had recently released our first portable speaker, ‘Roam’. This was a parody pitch for doing a global partnership with Tobleroan to celebrate.

What I Did

Idea, pitch deck, model design sourcing and print sourcing, script

Outcome

Won an internal prize.

Lessons Learned

Another rushed project within a week, so a lot of color correction issues I couldn’t get to. Making things from actual-chocolate with tempering is not worth it for this kind of project. Melts will do.

Context

During COVID recovery, I briefly served as the Media Arts Studio Lead at BARN. One of my main goals was simplifying the podcast recording process to better meet the needs of the typical users. Many of the everyday users were older retired folks (uncomfortable with tech) and teen students (used to very accessible tech). The system largely depended on understanding audio interfaces, and multitrack recording in Logic, which was difficult for many users.

For the Kings was founded by Josh and Neal - two songwriter guitar players who were deeply inspired by old school rock and country legends. They had been gigging around Los Angeles, but had never put out any recordings. Typically it was just the two of them and their guitars on stage, and they wanted the full band sound.
